Remarkable Cave
Located just an 8–10 minute drive from Port Arthur Villas, Remarkable Cave is an easy and rewarding stop along the Tasman Peninsula.
From the car park, a short walk leads you down a series of steps to a viewing platform overlooking the cave. The return walk takes around 15 minutes and is considered moderately easy, though the steps can be steep in sections.
-
Carved by the sea, the cave forms a striking tunnel through the rock, framing views out to the Southern Ocean. The experience changes with the tide and weather, offering something different each time you visit, from calm coastal views to dramatic waves surging through the opening.
Whether you stop briefly or take your time, Remarkable Cave is a simple way to experience the raw coastal beauty of the region.
Tasman Island Cruises
Just a two minute drive from Port Arthur Villas, Pennicott Wilderness Journeys offers an unforgettable way to experience the dramatic coastline of the Tasman Peninsula. Departing from their local booking centre, the Tasman Island Cruise is a 3 hour wilderness experience that takes you beneath some of the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere, along a coastline shaped by towering dolerite formations, sea caves and rugged headlands.
Along the way, you may encounter an abundance of wildlife including seals, seabirds and dolphins, with whales often sighted during migration seasons. The experience is guided throughout, offering insight into the region’s geology, history and unique ecosystem. Designed to be both immersive and memorable, this is one of the most highly regarded experiences in the region and a highlight for many visitors to Port Arthur.
Tessellated Pavement
Located at Eaglehawk Neck, approximately a 20 minute drive from Port Arthur Villas, the Tessellated Pavement is one of Tasmania’s most unique natural formations, created over time through a combination of geological fracturing and coastal erosion. It is widely regarded as one of the best examples of this rare phenomenon in the world.
-
The site is easily accessible via a short, flat walk from the car park, making it a simple and rewarding stop along the Tasman Peninsula.
At low tide, shallow pools settle within the patterned rock, creating a striking reflective surface that is especially popular with photographers. As the site faces east, the best light is typically at sunrise, when the colours and reflections are at their most dramatic.
For the best experience, plan your visit around low tide and take your time exploring the detail and scale of this remarkable coastal landscape.
Cape Huay Hike
Located within the Tasman National Park, the Cape Hauy walk is one of the most iconic coastal hikes on the Tasman Peninsula. The track is accessed via Fortescue Bay, approximately a 30 minute drive from Port Arthur Villas.
The full walk is around 9–10 kilometres return and typically takes 3 to 4 hours, following a well formed track through coastal bushland before opening out to dramatic cliff top views.
-
A series of steps lead you along the escarpment to Cape Hauy, where you are met with sweeping views of the Tasman Sea and the striking dolerite columns the area is known for.
While the track is well maintained, it includes a number of steps and moderate elevation, making it a rewarding walk suited to those with a reasonable level of fitness.
From start to finish, Cape Hauy offers a memorable way to experience the scale and raw beauty of Tasmania’s coastline, best followed by a refreshing swim at Fortescue Bay Beach.
Three capes Track
The Three Capes Track is an award winning, world class 4 day, 3 night walking experience showcasing the dramatic coastline of the Tasman Peninsula.
The journey begins at the Port Arthur Historic Site, where walkers take a boat transfer along the coastline to the start of the track. From there, the 48 kilometre walk unfolds across well formed trails, including sections of crushed gravel, boardwalks and steps.
-
Along the way, walkers stay in purpose built eco cabins, offering comfortable facilities and a unique overnight experience immersed in the landscape.
The track leads to some of the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere, with expansive ocean views and opportunities to spot wildlife, including seals, seabirds and, during migration seasons, whales.
The walk concludes at Fortescue Bay, where transport returns you to Port Arthur.
